Where are you based? Do you travel for weddings?
I am based on the North Shore of Massachusetts and travel extensively throughout New England. I am also available for travel throughout the United States and abroad. I’ve worked with clients in Texas, Washington, D.C., Wisconsin, Chicago, New York City and every state in New England.
How many weddings do you shoot a year?
I photograph 15-20 weddings and 10-15 portrait sessions a year. Accepting a limited number of weddings and portrait sessions allows me to provide personalized service and ensure that each of my clients are well taken care.
We love your work, what do we need to secure our date and book you as our photographer?
I would love to have the opportunity to connect with you and learn more about your story. I am available to talk over phone, Skype, Google Chat, FaceTime or would be happy to schedule an in person consultation.
To secure your date I require a signed contract and a deposit of one-third of your total Collection.
Do you work with a second photographer?
Most Collections include a second photographer who works alongside me on the wedding day. The second photographer is a working professional photographer.
Do you have backup equipment?
I bring two back up cameras, batteries, cards, lenses and flashes to every wedding.
Are you insured?
Yes. I can also provide a certificate of insurance if requested by your venue.
What would you describe your style of photography to be?
I am drawn to images that are intimate, romantic and emotive. My shooting style is a mix of interactive and discreet. There will be times of the day where I will be in control, helping to direct and pose you in front of the camera, allowing you to feel comfortable and at ease with me and each other. At other times I will take a more documentarian approach, capturing moments just as they happen with very little interaction. I serve my clients best when I know them on a personal level -- understanding their unique backgrounds and the traits that make them who they are. I deeply value the relationships that I build with my clients and believe strongly that our relationship is the base upon which I can create meaningful and authentic images.
The idea of being photographed makes us nervous. Can you help us to be comfortable in front of the camera?
Absolutely!! Often your engagement session is the first time you’ve been photographed professionally and naturally there are nerves that develop about being in front of the camera -- What do you do? How do you act? -- It is my job to give you direction, guidance and lots of encouragement to enable you to feel comfortable and at ease. I’ll share verbal and visual direction so you know exactly what to do as you’re being photographed. I will also give you space to simply be yourself together. It’s a balance in communication and direction while also giving you the opportunity to simply interact naturally without anything instruction.
Do we need an Engagement Session? Can we exchange it for another product or service?
I truly believe that an engagement session is a vital part of the photography experience. Often your session may be the first time you’ve been professionally photographed and naturally you might have questions about what to expect or may even be worried that it will be an awkward experience. An engagement session is our opportunity to diminish those anxieties and to build upon our relationship before the wedding day. Through your session you’ll learn what it feels like to be posed together with lots of guidance and direction from me, allowing you to feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera. This experience pays off in dividends on the wedding day. Because of the trust we have built together coupled with the experience you’ve gained during the Engagement Session, you are less likely to be nervous in front of the camera on the wedding day; in fact you may just forget you’re being photographed!! Your trust in me, knowing that you’ll be well taken care of, allows me to capture images that are true to who you are with natural movement and authenticity.
Because I believe engagement sessions are an important part of the photography experience, it is my policy that I do not remove the complimentary engagement session or exchange it for another product or service.
When and where does the engagement session take place?
Engagement sessions are available on Monday - Friday. Your session includes travel up to 40 miles from my home on the North Shore. A further distance may require a travel fee.
Do you travel for Engagements, Portraits or Weddings?
Yes! I love having the opportunity to travel to destinations that have special meaning for a couple or family. Engagement & Portrait sessions include up to 40 miles of travel from my home on the North Shore. If interested in something outside of this distance or New England, a destination quote can be provided. These quotes will include specifications for airfare, hotel etc if needed.
A Custom Destination Wedding Collection can be created for your celebration as well. Some locations on the Cape or in New England may require a Custom Destination Collection. These Collections are all encompassing and will included specifications for airfare, hotel etc if needed.
How long does it take to receive our images?
You will receive images from your engagement or portrait session 3-4 weeks following your session. You will receive images from your wedding 8 weeks following your wedding day.
How many images doe we receive?
You will receive approximately 75 images from your engagement or portrait session. On the wedding day I take approximately 75-100 images an hour resulting in approximately 800-900 images from your wedding day.
How do we receive our images?
Images are delivered via a personalized online gallery where you can view, print, share and download your images following the engagement session and wedding day. These are high resolution un-watermarked images that you can download directly to your computer, tablet, laptop or phone. You receive personal usage rights to these images meaning you can upload them to Social Media, share them online, and order prints at a lab of your choice. I offer a competitively priced printing option directly within the gallery which features beautiful museum quality printing giving. You have the freedom and flexibility to choose the option best suited for you. *For any images shared online, I do request that you include credit when sharing.
Do you edit the images we receive?
Images are edited to adjust for color and exposure if needed. My editing style is very minimal as I want the images to appear natural and timeless. I am drawn to a fine art style with hints of grain, texture and movement. What you see on my website and blog are the types of edited images you will receive.
Do you shoot in color or black and white?
I shoot digitally in color. During the post production process if I feel that an image is better suited for black and white I will use my artistic discretion to change the image.
Can we provide you with a shot list?
Before the wedding day we will work together to create a family formal list that incorporates the important loved ones you’d like photographed on the wedding day. I will also ask you to share any important images you’d like taken such as special guests, events or heirlooms. Other than that I do not work from a preconceived shot list as I find it can hinder me from doing my job of capturing your day and the timeless moments happening around you.
What if you are sick on the wedding day?
If an emergency prevents me for being able to photograph your wedding day you will be notified and I will reach out to my network of area professional wedding photographers to take my place. Additionally, if your Collection includes a second photographer, they can step up to lead photographer in the event of an emergency.
What is the payment schedule?
For weddings, the payment plan is divided into thirds. One third due at the time of booking, one third due 5-6 months before the wedding date with the final payment due 30 days before the wedding. Payment for Portrait sessions are due at time of booking.
Can You Create a Custom Collection for us?
If you don’t see something you want listed in the Collections, I would be happy to talk with you about the possibility of creating a Custom Collection.
Can we add on A La Carte items such as additional hours after we book?
You can add on a la carte items at any time. Following an addition clients will be invoiced for that item. Items are not delivered until full payment has been received for that item.
How long have you been in business? What is your background in photography?
I began my business in 2009. Before beginning my business I attended to Northeastern University, majoring in Photography & Journalism. Upon graduation I became a photojournalist and spent the next five years documenting breaking news. In 2011 I left my job as a journalist and went full time with Deborah Zoe Photography.
